BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ

DAY 56

SUNDAY 29 MAY 2016

I spent most of Sunday like the proverbial blue-arsed fly, buzzing around getting stuff done and mostly to do with the bike.

Within walking distance of where I am staying in the Buckman neighbourhood of Portland is Recumbent PDX, a specialist dealer and service agent for all things recumbent.

Pretty lucky for me.

I'd located a trailer here on Friday and decided to sleep on it for 48 hours, which also gave me the opportunity to shop around the multitude of other bike outlets here in Portland for a better offer.

Perhaps inevitably, there wasn't really one so I headed straight back to Recumbent PDX.

After deciding to acquire the trailer, it was also a good time to get the bike checked over after nearly 1400 miles on the road from Los Angeles.

Brakes, chains and tyres typically accumulate the greatest wear and tear over time and for me, 2 out of 3 needed attention.

So it was down into the service pit with the Grasshopper for an hour or so and off to the Grand Central Bakery on Hawthorne with me, accompanied by a courtesy meal ticket that Recumbent PDX give their customers whilst their bikes are being worked on.

5 hours and a small fortune later, I headed back to base with a new chain, freshly bled and overhauled brakes and towing a new trailer, which also sported a brand new pair of Schwalbe Marathon Pluses to get me all the way to Vancouver on....

THE PORTLAND THORNS

By 4.30, the chores may have been done but I'd also missed half of the Portland Thorns women's soccer match which Darren had set me aside tickets for.

I promptly changed clothes and jumped on the 15 bus which dropped me right outside Providence Park by 5 pm.

The second half was well underway by the time I took my seat amongst nearly 20 000 other people, which is easily the biggest crowd I'd seen for a stand-alone women's sporting event....anywhere.

And for the record, it was 0-0 at game's end.

YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY WIN.....
